There are two different types of asbestos survey – Management and R&D. A Management Survey inspects a building and identifies possible asbestos containing materials. An R&D survey is more intrusive and includes taking samples of suspected asbestos containing materials to have them tested in a laboratory to confirm whether or not they are hazardous. The cost of an asbestos R&D survey will usually include a number of free asbestos samples within the fee.

Choosing a good Asbestos Surveyor
A good asbestos surveyor will be experienced in all types of asbestos containing materials.
In addition, choosing a good asbestos surveyor should involve checking that they hold a proficiency certification part 402 in Buildings Surveys and Bulk Sampling for Asbestos (including Risk Assessment and Risk Management Strategies). Our Surveyor holds this qualification.
I only own a small shop. Do I still need an asbestos survey carried out?
If the building was built prior to November 1999 you are still required to obtain an asbestos survey. If you recent the property you are usually responsible for the cost of an asbestos survey as you occupy the building.
